It is a proven fact that the Malayalam film industry’s forte has always been to make vehement, unconventional, and experimental movies. Fahadh-Mahesh’s film, “C U Soon” is a good reminder of Mollywood’s true capability. When the entire Indian cinema is swaddled up and been in hibernation for a long time amidst the global pandemic, Mahesh, Fahadh and Nazriya were trying to make a statement out there. The point is that creativity and talent is something that can never be fettered. It was about time that the movies also evinced the reality of the world right now, how people interact with each other virtually through computer screens to a great extent.

The movie starts with Jimmy Kurian played by Roshan Mathew, and Anu Sebastian played by Darshana Rajendran finding each other on TINDER. Soon we will get to know that Jimmy is a bank executive working for a corporation in UAE, but very little about Anu will be known. One thing leads to another, and Jimmy decides to marry Anu. Jimmy’s mother played by Maala Parvathi being typical Indian mother ropes in his elder cousin Kevin Thomas played by none other than the Fahad Faasil who is an ethical hacker working in Kochi to check on the background of Anu through her social media account. This is when the movie starts to embark on a roller coaster ride and keeps you engaged until the end.

Being inspired by the Hollywood movie “Searching”. The movie was entirely shot on a phone, computer, laptop, and CCTV cameras. Mahesh Narayanan has tutored the industry on how to keep things simple, while not being dull-witted. Every scene in this film plays out like messages, videos, and SMS on a laptop.

The movie has a very limited number of actors, but each one of them has given their part with sheer perfection. Roshan Matthews as Jimmy Kurian has shown each emotion with rawness. The role demands the compassion of an early adult, and he promptly portrayed that with ease. Fahadh Fasil was another gem seen in the movie. His role as an IT-Struck-Hacker shows how easy yet difficult it is to deal with the job and personal life. His role as a very matured, practical and logical adult, makes us understand that no matter how hard it is, sometimes we can make things easy with just common sense and spontaneity. Fortunately, we get to see Fahad up closely on our screen acting through those damn eyes. Darshana Rajendran as Anumol stood outstanding with her performance. Her role as a serene girl with deep secrets and surreal problems was marvellous, and she aced her skills with her simple demeanour.

Mahesh Narayan once again showed his mettle by making a film which seems perfect in almost every aspect be it direction, editing, writing, and cinematography. Not even a single song will be heard throughout the film, but the background music given by Gopi sunder sets the right mood and exponentially enhances the viewing experience. Being a screen-based film there isn’t any scope for cinematography, but we get to see a novel concept known as virtual cinematography which deals with a set of cinematographic techniques, performed in a computer graphics environment.

Mind-blowing performances, thrilling and emotional writing, perfect execution of all the 24 Krafts makes “C U Soon” a must watch!
