Screenplay:
The screenplay of the movie is smooth and soothing as the story flashes back-and-forth at the backdrop of pre-independent India and world war 2 (1936-1939), during the period Indian soldiers fought for England against Nazi Germany. The movie revolves around the story of a soldier Dhupati Haribabu(Varun Tej) and his superior officer, Eeswar Prasad(Nikitin Dheer). The opening scenes portray a serious-vibe between Haribabu and Eeshwar at the battlefield which makes us think about their past.

Story:
A simple story of Haribabu, the grandson of a barber who also has a knack of playing instruments, and Seeta Devi(Pragya Jaiswal), daughter of the zamindar household and sister of Eeswar who were lovers formerly but were separated due to caste differences. The story also narrates an interesting parallel, showing the discrimination faced by Jews under the Hitler government. If we keenly observe, the problem in the village and the reason for the war is quite similar. Caste in the case of village and native in the case of war.

Cinematography:
Cinematographer Gnana Shekar V. S did an exceptional job in capturing the war sequences which gives the audience a Hollywood experience. The movie recreates the essence of an Indian village in the 1940s. The visuals in the songs are beautiful. Haribabu writing letters to Seeta Devi from the line of fire reveal very little about his past but at times when he observes similarities between his village and war, the story goes back-and-forth to his past and present.

Music:
Chirantan Bhatt’s music is magnificent. The background music in war sequences brings us an intense vibe that grabs our attention. Speaking of songs, “Itu Itu Ani” and “Ooru Erayyindi Eru Horettindi” are the favorite songs on the audience playlist. The usage of words by lyricist Sirivennela Sitarama Sastry Garu is a major asset to the songs giving a deep meaning which are thought-provoking.

Dialogues:
The most captivating aspect of the film is the great and beautiful lines written by Sai Madhav Burra which gives us an insight into the depth of knowledge. Each line has depth, truth, emotion, and a question that makes the audience think about social issues like caste and problems faced by women back then.
The movie has “Aadatanam okko desam lo okkola untundanukunnanu kani amma tanam ye desam lo aina okela untundhani telusukunanu”(transl: Nature of a woman might differ from place to place but the nature of a mother is universal),
“Kulam antey pani! Vaallu brathakadaniki kadhu andharu brathakadaniki”(transl: Caste represents the profession of a group of people, not just for them, but for the society to grow together) and many more beautiful lines.

Direction:
Director Krish proved a point that he is different from the other directors in Tollywood. There are no commercial elements like unwanted heroism and metaphorical dialogues in the movie because the director believes that “Cinema is not just a business to entertain people but is a lecture to educate people with responsibilities and social awareness”. This movie is not an experiment but a splendid shot. The audience can enjoy if they get connected to the story and not look for commercial elements. The movie was shot within 55 days which is worth appreciating.

Character Arcs:

From being nice to Eeswar so that he can approve his marriage with Seeta, to the thought of killing Eeshwar, but Haribabu will be seen saving the life of Eeswar twice because as a true lover he promised Seeta no matter what he will save Eeswar upon his life.

Actors:
The movie has a perfect cast. Despite being Varun Tej’s second film, the way he geared up his acting skills is impeccable. He portrayed Haribabu’s character with maturity and ease. Pragya Jaiswal looks stunning and has an amazing screen presence. Niketan Dheer makes an excellent debut that suits him perfectly. The scenes between him and Varun have been designed well. Srinivas Avasarala’s screen presence is filled with comedy and beautiful lines written by Sri Sri.
