Story:
The story starts by introducing a thief and a normal employee Chandu and Satya. Parallelly, there is another story going with Narayana and Nayar. Narayana promises an amount of 1 CR to Nayar and hides the hint in a small envelope. That envelope goes missing and ends up with Satya. Meanwhile, Nayar’s men demand Satya for the envelope, of which she has no idea. The goons then try assaulting her and in the process of getting out from there, she accidentally stabs her nosy landlord and one of the Nayar’s men.
Chandu poses as a policeman to steal money from people. While he is relaxing in a dhaba, Satya runs in to inform her friend about what has happened. The police over hear her and the inspector comes there. Chandu saves her from Nayar’s men and eventually real police end up there. Chandu takes Satya hostage, thinking that police came for him and run into the forest. Nayar with his men follow into the jungle for them. While they keep going in the jungle, Chandu and Satya realise that Nayar is back at this money. But they have different plans. Chandu wants to keep money but Satya wants to give that money to the police. The rest of the story is how they get away from the goons and what they do with the money.
Characters and Acting:
Chandu is played by Venkatesh. He gave complete justice to the role by acting as a thief with his own morals and sensibilities. Satya is played by Sridevi, who keeps panicking about every small thing and blames herself for not listening to her mother. Her innocence is too cute to deal with! Paresh Rawal played the role of Nayar, who is a hot head with his own set of wits. He nailed the character with perfection. His role is the most prominent compared to all others.
Direction and Screenplay:
Director Ram Gopal Varma, made sure that the characters are completely comfortable with their roles. Even though the actors are good at their part, ultimately, it’s the director’s take that goes on the screen. RGV made sure that the story touches every type of audience and feel connected to it. The screen play was by Teja, who later turned a director. The scenes shot on the forest seem very realistic. There are few shots that leave a mark of RGV, like, intro scene of villain from leg shot, top angles of fights and imagination of Chandu- he imagines to steal that 1 CR, and live a lavish life. These scenes may not be the most important in the story, but RGV made sure that the scenes leave a mark on the audience.
Music and Sound design:
Music was composed by MM Keeravani. All the tracks were sung by SP Balasubramanyam and Chitra except Ko Ante Koti was sung by Sridevi herself with SPB. The other iconic song Jaamu Raatiri is still a favourite for a lot of people. The song is the most serene track with melodious beats. The background music is apt to the scenes, and gets intensified at the right time. Also, music is not used in unnecessary scenes. Mostly, the sounds of each movement are clearly heard while watching the movie. The footsteps while running and the rustling of leaves in the forest have made the audience feel more realistic.
