Aditi Rao Hydari is an eminent actress, dancer and singer in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam movies and her versatility was never question as she never failed to amuse the audience with talent and performances. Her films might not have been the bagged enough at the box office but there is no doubt that her performance has stood out in all of the films that she has chosen to act in. She was born in Hyderabad to Ehsaan Hydari and Vidya Rao, an acclaimed classical singer popular for thumri and Dadra genres of music. Her austerity and modesty is pretty much the talk of the town forever, in light of her royal status and connections. Aditi’s great grandfather was Akbar Hydari, the Prime Minister of Hyderabad state before independence and she is also the grandniece of Muhammad Saleh Akbar Hydari, the former Governor of Assam.
Aditi began her career as a Bharatanatyam dancer. Aditi has been learning the beautiful dance form of Bharatnatyam since the tender age of 6. Her Tamil debut ‘Sringaram’ saw her in the role of a devadasi where Aditi wowed everyone with her fabulous dancing skills. But her first theatrical release was a Malayalam movie, Prajapathi in 2006, in which she starred alongside Mammotty. In 2009, she was cast by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra in his Hindi drama film, Delhi-6, where she portrayed a supporting role of an unmarried woman living in a community where spinsterhood was frowned upon. Featuring in an ensemble cast alongside Abhishek Bachchan and Sonam Kapoor, Hydari was selected by Mehra after he was impressed with her performance in Sringaram.
Aditi debuted as a singer in her movie ‘London, Paris, New York’ opposite Ali Zaffar with not one but two songs, ‘Woh Dekhnay Mein’ and ‘Theree Si Zindagi’. Aditi’s mother is a ‘thumri’ singer and it is said that Aditi learned singing from her. Aditi gained popularity with her roles in films like Fitoor, Yeh Saali Zindagi and Rockstar. In 2012, she won her award ever as the best-supporting actress for Yeh Saali Zindagi movie. But the latter part of the decade is stamped as the path-breaking period of her career. The decent success of Wazir in 2016 was the dawn of career success. In 2017, Maniratnam signed her up Kaatru Veliyidai, which gave her many accolades and won her two awards for her performance. Ever since then, she was on board and been a part of many decent to successful movies that include Padmaavat, Bhoomi, Sammohanam, Chekka Chivantha Vaanam, Anthariksham, Psycho, V, brought her a lot of fame for her graceful acting.
In 2018, amidst numerous controversies and protests, Padmaavat was released, though it received mixed reviews from critics but was a box office success. Hydari received much praise for her portrayal of Mehrunisa. 2018 also marked Aditi’s second film with Mani Ratnam and the third film in Tamil Cinema with Chekka Chivantha Vaanam. She played Parvathi, one of the eight lead roles Chekka Chivantha Vaanam included Vijay Sethupathi, Arun Vijay, Silambarasan, Jyothika and Dayana Erappa. She did her Tollywood debut with Sammohanam which was critically acclaimed directed by Mohan Krishna Indraganti. She was nominated for the best actress Telugu at Filmfare awards as well as at the SIIMA awards. She won Best debut actress award at the Zee Cine Awards Telugu and Special jury award at TSR TV9 awards.
