She started her career as a theatre artist, with the one-off and soon caught a casting agent’s eye to get a supporting role in Waterland. She then went on to the big screen with the movie The Remains of Day which received 8 Academy Awards. She then played a role named Natasha Jackson in the movie, Kavanagh QC. She eventually played many prominent roles in numerous movies. Her breakthrough was with the movie The Brothers Grimm and as Sarah Connor in Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles. She then played the role of Cersei Lannister which bought her Primetime Emmy Award. It was a great platform for her to portray all her skills and talent and she just slayed the role with ease.
