Introduction –
This movie is a psychological thriller. It is an adaptation of the book written by Steig Larsson. This movie is one of those gems that keep the audience on the edge of their seats and doesn’t disappoint the readers.
Plot –
Mikael Blomkvist, a journalist with a tarnished reputation is hired to solve an age-old murder case that belongs to one of the wealthiest families in Sweden. Lisbeth Salander is a brilliant hacker who has survived years of abuse that makes her seek comfort in solitude. She sets out to seek revenge against those who wronged her over the years. The rest of the movie is about how these two cross paths and how one plot unfolds the other.
Direction –
The original title “Men who hate Women” was later changed as it was extremely misogynistic seeing as to how a few characters are survivors of extreme abuse and how that shaped their minds. The director David Fincher did his best to keep up the misogyny alive throughout the movie as the main plot revolves around it.
Cinematography-
The cinematographer Jeff Cronenworth made sure movie is packed with stunning visuals which tend to imprint the minds of the audience.
Editing-
The editing of this movie is definitely one of its plus points. Kirk Baxter and Angus Wall won an Academy Award for their work in this film.
Acting Performance –
The whole cast of this movie is brilliant. Rooney Mara’s portrayal of Lisbeth Salander is top-notch and proves the fact that she is a highly underrated actress.
Although we tend to get a little sceptical about Daniel Craig and how he fits into the character, he definitely does justice to it. Christopher Plummer deserves a shoutout for his role as Henrik Vanger a multifaceted businessman.
Awards –
This movie has been nominated for numerous awards.
It won the Academy Award for Best Achievement in Film Editing, Saturn Award for the Best Horror/ Thriller film. Rooney Mara has been nominated for the Academy, and the Golden Globes for the Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role.
Overall Verdict –
This movie is an intense multidimensional psychological thriller that keeps viewers engaged with its twists. Although it gets a little clichè midway. This movie deserves all the hype. It’s portrayal of internalised patriarchy and power sends a strong message.
