Walking for the first time as a kid, getting your first trophy at high school, owning your first car as an adult and watching our kids walk for the first time, we come across many firsts in our life. We remember our firsts because they happen once in a lifetime. Out of all these firsts, what will be that one specific thing that will make your cheeks go red at the age of 50? Of course, it’s your FIRST LOVE. That’s when you feel butterflies in your tummy, you start to feel tenderness, daydream about them, become vulnerable around them and whatnot! They become a part of you by changing you in many ways that you never notice and everything seems so special about them because the person is your “first” love.

Tholiprema- A story of two different individuals who fall in love right after their high school, remain together in college and go through a rough phase for six years, later cross paths once again in their lives. Adithya, an impulsive, stubborn man is a pretty straightforward person and Varsha on other hand is an emotional and sensitive woman who thinks about the circumstances before making a decision. Their journey proves how a man’s ego and a woman’s emotions at sensitive times can affect decision making.

Adithya falls in love with Varsha the second he sees her on the train and tries to flirt with her. He makes his point clear by telling he is flirting and not teasing by “Ammaylaki istam lekunda cheste teasing. Ishtapadela chesthe flirting”- which gives a tiny clue that Varsha likes him too but she takes her time to tell those three magical words because she tells “Meeku I love you cheppinchukovadam lo kick unte, maaku thippinchukovadam lo kick undi” which makes us understand that she enjoys Adithya’s presence around her. She makes Adithya curious by every second, waiting for those three words to come out from her mouth.

After six long years when Adithya and Varsha meet each other, there exists some tension between them. Varsha tries to sort things out and become friends whereas Adithya doesn’t budge. Adithya during a conversation tells Varsha- “Gnyapakalu cheddavi ayina manchivaina moyaka thappadhu”(Let it be good or bad memories, we must carry them with us always) shows that he is still mad at her but at the bottom of his heart he cares for her. In the scene where Varsha and Adithya together try to convince their friend’s parents for love marriage, Adithya tells “Devudike caste lenappudu, after all manushulam manaki enduku uncle”. This dialogue triggers caste problems in the society where caste is a major cause for most love failures. In the same scene, Varsha tells “Manushulam uncle. Prema gurthu undadu..Thappu okkate gurthuntundi”- this dialogue shows us how she feels about breaking up with Adithya over a little mistake.

Adithya doesn’t admit that he is still in love with Varsha because of his impulsive nature, due to which Varsha gets hurt and they get into a fight. Varsha returns him all the things that she received from him and all the photographs from their college days. Adithya realizes that she accepted all the love and hate he gave to her and came back to him only because she always loved him so unconditionally which ultimately conveys that in true love, every second is worth waiting despite the distance, time, small mistakes and misunderstandings.

After going through all the memories, Adithya notices that he still cherishes all the moments he spent with her, like Varsha proposing in front hundreds of students, those little clues she gave him, their first kiss, the way she had his back at difficult times, how her presence made his life beautiful and most importantly realizing that Varsha lied to the principal only to save him from being rusticated. No sooner, Adithya decides not to lose her again and starts searching for her throughout the city. He finds her sitting alone in a railway station. The whole scene where he confesses his feelings to Varsha and proposes her by getting down on one knee is the cutest scene in the film. The movie ends with a romantic kiss which gives the film a beautiful and complete ending.
Their story in the film starts in a railway station as well as ends in a railway station.

Varun Tej is seen playing the role of Adithya in three different looks, first being an innocent high school kid, secondly, a rebellious college student and the third being a passionate young man with stylish and rustic looks. After this film, Varun became the heartthrob of many girls out there. Rashi Khanna is seen as Varsha, a lovely young lady with gorgeous looks and fine acting. The other characters in the film like Hyperadhi and Priyadharshi made us laugh throughout their screen presence. Venky Atlluri the director of the film made a perfect debut. It seems like he took references of many famous Telugu love stories but still the film doesn’t fail to give a new, feel-good experience.

Tholiprema is a mature love story which shows the reality and struggles in a relationship. Different kinds of the audience may have a different perspective towards the film.
