While movies like Saaho, Baahubali, Ala Vaikuntapuramlo are prestigious and broke box office records, films like Malli Raava depict serene emotions and beautify Telugu authenticity. Malli Raava is a movie which escalated the audience’s opinion on love stories. The film not only talks about the relationship between the lead actors but also about what they go through in each phase of their lives.

Malli Raava revolves around Karthik and Anjali who fall in love with each other in their childhood. How they meet each other at different phases of lives, how they evolved from childhood sweethearts to understanding lovers, are they destined to be together sum up the rest of the story. The story escalates between three different timelines-1999, 2012, 2017. Even though there are a series of flashbacks, the film went very smoothly without any confusion.

Karthik and Anjali are people with different mindsets. One is a carefree person while the other works hard. One is attached to emotions while the other is very practical. One lives to have fun while the other lives to achieve something. The former is negligent while the latter is very serious about the goal and life. While they have their differences, they still manage to work it out and always find their way back to each other.

Though the film escalates slowly, the audience never gets tired of watching. This is because of the beautiful emotions presented by the actors. Both Sumanth and Akanksha as Karthik and Anjali lived up-to their performances. There are scenes and moments in the film where the leads suppress their feelings for each other. They express their emotions with their eyes and both of them outdoing each other. Though this pair is new and fresh, they complemented each other pretty well. Sumanth as Karthik proved to be a good fit for the role. While crying or loving, he just gave his best. Akanksha as Anjali did not just act but lived in the character. She mesmerised everyone with her charm and made the audience forget that Malli Raava is her debut film.

Without any action sequences, lengthy dialogues and unnecessary elevations, the film won the audience’s appreciation. What worked very well for the film is the realistic story, practical treatment of feelings and emotions, excellent presentation of a simple storyline. Shravan Bharadwaj’s music is soulful and melodious to listen to. The music added good flavour to the film besides the neat presentation. Gowtam Tinnanuri’s talent did magic and left a decent mark in Tollywood. His excellent skills of blending many emotions without messing up need to be appreciated the most.

Unlike the usual formula Tollywood films, Malli Raava does not end with a conclusion. Rather, the film ends with a message, a feeling and an emotion. The film doesn’t tell whether Karthik and Anjali will get married or whether they will end up together. Some people come into our lives, change us, help us get better but we never know whether they will be with us forever. Karthik doesn’t ask Anjali to marry him or the reason why she doesn’t want to get married. He gives her the space she needs, the time she wants and love she deserves. Understanding each others’ requirements and sacrificing one’s self for loved ones is what is called love. This is what Malli Raava conveyed beautifully.
