When someone makes a list of efficient directors in Tollywood, Sukumar will surely make it to the top 10. He proved his superiority with his very first film Arya which came out in 2004. Since 2004, he has given memorable roles to the respective actors and delivered their career bests. Sukumar has a unique ability in bringing the best out of any actor. Throughout all these years, his promise of delivering conceptualised films to the audience is kept.

One Nenokkadine created a lot of buzzes and also a few controversies. The audience had lots of expectations towards the film yet the film stood as a disaster. Even though Sukumar packed the movie with many commercial elements which would have worked very well otherwise, it failed at the box office.

One: Nenokkadine revolves around Goutham (Mahesh Babu), a rock musician suffering from Schizophrenia. He has a troubled past and because of this and his disease, he hallucinates his parents’ murderers and how he fights them. He meets Sameera (Kriti Sanon) , a journalist and they fall in love with each other. Sameera sets a plan to help Goutham as his hallucinations keep consuming him. After a turn of events, Goutham learns about the wicked twist behind the death of his parents but will he succeed in getting his revenge and how Sameera became a part of his revenge story and the reason behind the death of Goutham’s parents will be revealed in the film.

Sukumar proved to be one of the finest directors of Tollywood. With every film, his roots as a fine director grew stronger. He is known for his unique story narrating and incredible use of non-linear screenplay. But with One: Nenokkadine, he established his mark deeply in Tollywood as a top director. Despite the result of the film, his direction was well appreciated and noted. Sukumar chose a different path besides the routine commercial action drama. He inspired many directors for non-linear storytelling.

The way the film takes the audience right into suspense and adventure after the introduction of the leads without any unwanted nonsense must be talked about. Even though there was no humour added to the film, the magic of suspense did work out. As one can observe, Sukumar did not just give away the story to the audience and the twists aren’t predictable. The viewers were left for their guessing but didn’t end up guessing right. Besides these, he left pieces of the film to the people to arrange. He left a few parts for people to sort and this made them engaged to the story throughout.

The director could have straightaway given up the story to the viewers but he didn’t. Instead, he mixed up the suspense to this thriller to make people stick to their seats. Excellent cinematography amplified the beautiful taking of the film. Rathnavelu is a renowned cinematographer and won many accolades in that category. But his work for One: Nenokkadine remains indestructible.

Mahesh Babu looked stylish and charismatic. His charm worked too well. The action sequences, his picturization, characterization was unique and brought a new glare out of him. Kriti looked perfect beside Mahesh Babu. A special mention needs to be given to Devi Sri Prasad for exquisite tunes and wonderful background music.

But the three hours long suspense and puzzle made people lose their patience. They are tested throughout which makes them lose their interest. In addition to this, not everyone tries to put together every missing bit. Some of the viewers leave it up to the director. Besides this, one can say that Sukumar took a brave step in embracing his unique talent of conceptualising a simple storyline. He succeeded in delivering a subtle film but this time the audience failed him.
