Few films have good content but might not be talked about much. One such film is Satyam. Released in 2003, this film gave a break to Sumanth in his career when it was slow. He acted in a few films before Satyam. But this movie brought out a mature actor from him. Though he has a great filmy background, he stood on his legs. One can say that Sumanth is a self-made star.
Satyam (Sumanth) is an aspiring songwriter. He works as a ghostwriter for a famous lyricist. He dreams of standing on his own and achieving what he wants. He is unbelievably good and has pure intentions. But he is always misunderstood by his father and the girl he loves, Ankitha (Genelia). He moves out of his house and works to reach his ambition before proposing to Ankitha. Ankitha and Satyam meet several times, but she ends up believing he is a bad guy. With the help of his friends and with determination he sets his path to get his dreams to come true. How he clears the air between him and Ankitha and how he makes his dreams come true is the rest of the story.
Satyam is a film which introduced a new angle in Sumanth to the viewers. His innocent side in him is revealed to people through Satyam. Talking about his character, Satyam is innocent and decent. This decency is portrayed very well and in a matured manner by Sumanth. One can look into his eyes and tell what he is feeling. Expressing through eyes is what is needed for Satyam since he is an introverted one-side lover. And Sumanth did it very well with ease and perfection.
Many guys do have a problem in confessing their love to their loved ones. Everyone handles situations differently. How Satyam handled the situations made everyone like his soft and do-good nature. He did not chase Ankitha till she fell in love with him, “the usual portrayal of love in films”. He didn’t even decide to confess his love to her until he is successful and content with himself. Satyam might not be the ideal person but one can say he is an ideal lover.
Genelia D’Souza as Ankitha seemed so perfect for the role. Her flunky and the chubby side was already introduced to the audience through her previous film Boys. But her innocent and sweet nature is witnessed by the people with Satyam. Her characterization is so strong and unpredictable. Besides this Sumanth-Genelia pair is a good and a new one to watch.
Another thing to mention is the songs and music. Chakri’s music is a plus point. Madhurame Madhurame, O Maguva songs are brilliant and won him people’s accolades. The casting of this film is excellent. Actors like Kota Srinivas Rao, Bhramanandam, Kondavalasa, Tanikella Bharani got their fair share for the scope of acting. Besides them, comedian Rajesh got a chance to explore himself and has been nominated for Nandi Award under the Best Comedian category. Debutant director Surya Kiran did a pretty wonderful job in delivering a clean love story and presenting a film which is a treat to watch.
